Child support and alimony

Along with dividing property and making child custody decisions, divorce often involves long-term financial arrangements. Whether you are trying to obtain child support or spousal support, or defend against such claims, an experienced lawyer can help you understand your rights and protect them.

At the office of H. Stephen Hillebrand, Attorney at Law, I am focused on helping our family law clients come to resolutions that protect their interests for the future. With more than 30 years of experience, I can help you bring your claim, defend against such claims or reach an appropriate child support or alimony agreement.

To discuss your child support or alimony, contact me, a skilled child support attorney, in Sarasota, Florida.  I will help you understand your support options.

Supporting Your Children

Florida child support is usually determined according to the state's guidelines. I can help you apply the state's criteria to your situation and give you an honest assessment of what your support arrangement should look like. I am also here to help you ensure that all of the other party's financial circumstances and assets are considered in the formula, including varying business income, overtime payments and seasonal work.

If your child requires childcare, special care or medical insurance, these factors should also be considered. The court can deviate up to five percent or more from the guidelines based on our recommendations. If your situations changes substantially, I am also here to help you obtain a child support modification.

Determining Alimony

There are five primary types of spousal support in Florida:

  • Temporary
  • Rehabilitative/bridge the gap
  • Durational
  • Permanent
  • Lump sum

I will help you bring, or defend against, a spousal support claim or reach an alimony agreement that fits your circumstances after a divorce. Alimony varies greatly depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Length of your marriage
  • Your financial situation
  • Your lifestyle during the marriage
  • How much each of you has contributed      to the household in the past
